What is monitored

An external monitor requests valladns.com over HTTPS from outside our own infrastructure and records whether the site responds, how quickly, and any downtime windows. The status page is hosted on a separate domain and separate infrastructure on purpose: if valladns.com itself goes down, the status page stays reachable and can say so. Incident history stays published there after recovery, so you can check whether a problem you saw last night was on our side.

The monitor watches the site itself, not every upstream source our tools query. A WHOIS registry timing out, a slow authoritative nameserver, or a blocklist mirror refusing connections can make a single lookup fail while Valla DNS is healthy. Those upstream errors are reported inline in the tool result rather than on the status page.

Is it us or your connection?

When the status page shows all green but the site won't load for you, the cause is usually local: a stale DNS cache, a corporate proxy, or a VPN exit with broken routing. Try another network (a phone hotspot is a quick test), flush your DNS cache, or run a reachability check from a second location. Our guide Is my server down? If a specific tool returns an error for one domain but works for others, the upstream registry or resolver for that domain is the likely culprit. Wait a few minutes and retry before reporting it. Reproducible failures across domains are the ones worth telling us about, ideally with the exact domain and time so we can match server logs.
